High Water Pressure? Everett | Bothell | Snohomish County

You may enjoy the high water pressure in your home, however, excessive water pressure in your homes plumbing system can cause very serious and expensive problems.

The source of high water pressure originates with your municipal supplier or water district.  Municipal water pressure is set to meet the the needs of hydrants, apartment buildings, high rise office buildings and multi-family dwellings.  As development increases in a given area, your local water supplier will increase the pressure in the existing water mains to accommodate the new demand.  Water pressure in some areas can rise to 100psi or even higher.  The maximum pressure recommended pressure for residential homes is just 60psi

Water pressure fluctuates throughout the day.  Pressure is at it's highest at night, when demand is low, and lowest during the day, when demand is high.

SYMPTOMS OF HIGH WATER PRESSURE

-Reoccurring leaks at pipe joints inside walls and the water service line outside the building

-Leaky faucets, shower valves

-Toilets running without being used

-Banging or hammering pipes when you turn the water off to the shower, faucet, or when you flush the toilet

High water pressure also increases wear on your internal plumbing system and fixtures.  Residential piping and fixtures are not designed to operate at high pressure.  This leads to early failure of faucets, valves and piping joints.

If you suspect you have high water pressure, call Apollo Plumbing.  We can accurately measure your static pressure and determine if you may need a pressure reducing valve (PRV).  A properly installed PRV will reduce your water pressure to a safe level without losing water volume.
